The Changing Landscape for Diesel Vehicles

Jennifer Weaver, OEM Market Development Manager for the National Biodiesel Board, moderated the 2021 National Biodiesel Conference & Expo breakout session on what’s new with diesel vehicles. Joining her on the panel were Diesel Technology Forum Executive Director Allen Schaeffer, Dominic DiCicco with Ford Motor Company, and Dr. Wayne Eckerle, Vice President of Corporate Research and Technology for Cummins, Inc.

Today, three out of four trucks on the road are powered by diesel powertrains, and 98 percent of the large over-the-road Class 8 trucks are diesels. Yet major changes are in store as diesel equipment manufacturers face increasingly stringent regulations for Ultra Low Emissions Diesel Engines. Renewable diesel and biodiesel blends are readily available, drop-in fuels that can be used in any diesel engine, today. With renewable diesel and biodiesel, fleets can instantly lower their carbon footprint, without investing in costly new vehicles or waiting years for the build-out of new electric charging infrastructure.
