James (Jim) Swindler

Dep. General Manager (ret.)

Golden Gate Ferry

Jim Swindler formerly served as Deputy General Manager of Golden Gate Ferry, one of the most prominent ferry systems in the United States, providing commuter service between San Francisco and North Bay destinations. Under his leadership, Golden Gate Ferry became one of the first U.S. ferry operators to adopt biodiesel, helping to reduce emissions and set an early example in sustainable marine operations.

Prior to Golden Gate Ferry, Jim held senior management positions at the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority, serving first as Engineering and Maintenance Manager and later as Director of Operations. Before joining the Steamship Authority, he worked for M. Rosenblatt and Son, Inc., a naval architecture and marine engineering firm, and began his career as an apprentice shipbuilder at General Dynamics’ Quincy, Massachusetts Shipyard. Earlier in his career, he also served six years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft technician and flight engineer.

Today, Jim assists the Nazzaro Group in connecting the U.S. ferry market with clean fuel opportunities.
