Biomass-Based Diesel Can Lead in Carbon Reduction

Jenny Frank, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of renewable energy at the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology (SUNY Morrisville). She received her doctorate from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF).

During the Clean Fuels Conference, Frank presented her research focused on quantifying the environmental, financial, and technical viability of renewable energy technologies, biomass feedstocks and alternative fuels. This includes techno-economic analyses for renewable energy pathways, including biodiesel. Her results found that when compared to battery-electric as a pathway to decarbonization, the biomass-based diesel pathway achieves the largest 20-year net present value.
